Do You Know What it Means, to Party in New Orleans?
To Do
Aside from roaming around the French Quarter aimlessly with a cocktail in hand (Yeah! No open container law! Imagine what moving to NYC was like for me?!), there are quite a bit of activities to do within walking distance.
I just recently took advantage of the Canal Street/Algiers Ferry that docks on the Mississippi River in front of the Aquarium of the Pacific. Since the ferry is part of the New Orleans Transit, it's free to cross the river to Algiers, a historical town on the Westbank. My buddy, Jennifer, & I took a ride and had a cocktail at the Old Point Bar. The ferry is actually in danger of being shut down at the end of 2012, so use the resources while you have them!
If you'd like to do a proper Mississippi River experience, check out the paddle boat schedule over at the Creole Queen. They do afternoon as well as dinner cruises.
There's something about New Orleans museums that really hits home (no pun intended). Between the city's culture, music, food, I think artists soak in the atmosphere to create some amazing pieces of work. You'll always find folks selling their art on the streets, but the museums also showcase a lot of great work. The Ogden Museum, in particular, has a really great collection. For classic art, as well as local, check out the New Orleans Museum of Art and be sure to take a stroll under the oak trees of City Park.
On Thursday, November 8th, 2012, we went on a Fan Boat / Bayou extravaganza with Airboat Tours. I don't know how this has happened, but I'd never been on a swamp tour! We head into Cajun Country in two big vans & it was epic.
Never have I ever been to a city where live music is so readily available for your enjoyment. Every night, bands play at big and small venues. I recommend taking a stroll down Frenchman Street and popping in to DBA, The Spotted Cat, Three Muses, Cafe Brazil, Apple Barrel... the list goes on. If you want to check out some of the city's more famous music halls such as Preservation Hall and Tipitina's, check out Gambit where you can get info. about anything and everything happening in the city. But again, make sure to take advantage of the city's talent at your finger tips!
